What happens to a leased vehicle when the lessee dies? | Ryan S. Ratner, P.A. | ryansratner.com/ | ryanratner.com/ | (561) 544-7314 | (561) 245-2285 | 4400 N Federal Hwy, Suite 210, Boca Raton, Florida 33431
Leased vehicles can be extremely problematic when the lessee dies. I've had matters in the past where leasing companies have leased to a 90 year old, a vehicle, with a three or four year lease. Clearly, this can be problematic, and lease agreements, no longer, while they did almost 20 years ago, no longer really allow that the death of the lessee is a legal excuse to get out of the lease agreement.
So before turning the leased vehicle into the company, I always tell my clients to contact me first if there's been a death of the lessee in the family, so we can deal with that specific lease agreement based on its terms and conditions.
